Introduction
I grew up on my mother's cooking... which was catered to
my father's Kathiawadi tastes. In my American kitchen, I have tried to
recreate my mother's home-style cooking; despite her flair for not following
a specific recipe; for blending in left-overs for a unique, but unrepeatable,
meal; for cooking with missing ingredients, for knowing what could be substituted
for another. A lot of this I haven't been able to capture in the recipes,
but, hopefully, have in my own cooking. So, thank you, Mom for teaching
me about cooking with soul!
